I'm sorry, you agree with her? Owning and middle class...you know there are a LOT of minorities that are middle and owning class. She's trash. She's DEI. That's what dei is. I disagree, I won't paint with that broad of a brush. We have a DEI department, they do good things. I've heard our director talk several times, he's good and he's focused on the good things DEI can do inside of an organization.

What I get from this thread is that White Conservatives have a massive victim complex.

Did you work hard to be white, able, male, cisgender, heterosexual and not being prejudiced over any of that?
I do have to admit that I didn't understand how "english speaking" and "middle aged" is being privileged.
I'm sorry, you agree with her? Owning and middle class...you know there are a LOT of minorities that are middle and owning class. She's trash. When we consider that there are people who are disabled, were kicked out of their homes because they are not heterosexual or cis, we have to acknowledge that we're privileged. Were you never told by your parents as a kid that you were privileged for having a roof over your head and food on your plate?

Still lots of racist, homophobic, misogynistic dickheads in this world, that control the levers of businesses, towns, cities, states, countries ect. I'm not a victim, nor going to play the victim card like you do.

There are several states down south, who are being forced to redraw maps right now, because they gerrymandered black folks districts reducing their electoral power. Blatant racism is still everywhere in this country.

I'd bet you feel guilty for being white. She wasn't saying you're a bad person for having some advantages. In fact, I'm pretty sure she considers herself a privileged person and is speaking to an audience of mostly privileged people. The point is to have more empathy and realize you've randomly been given a few advantages over people who don't check the "privilege" benchmarks. You have to admit your life has been easier than if you'd been born a poor, black, disabled transvestite... right?

Maybe don’t place a label on “privilege” when all races and ethnicities have representatives.

It's harder to be poor than rich. It's harder to be gay than straight. It's harder to be a minority than white. It's harder to be uneducated than educated. Do you deny any of these statements? If you're on the positive side of any of them you're experiencing some amount of privilege.

I'm not a victim, rather, I was raised with a work ethic (foreign to many), worked multiple jobs, made good financial decisions, etc... You pass blame where I give credit. Personally, unless you're a trust fund baby, I refuse any suggestion of privilege, regardless of race, skin color or childhood. My neighbor and his family are minorities (great people)...very successful couple, when you hear their childhood stories you'd feel like a bag of dirt to suggest they had privilege....hard work, perseverance, dedication earned them what they have. And now this lady wants to take that away suggesting that middle class and ownership is somehow privileged. They (and I) would spit in her face rather than accept her opinion as fact.

I know way to many people who have pulled themselves out of poverty, homelessness, huge medical debt, etc to slap them in the face to suggest they're somehow now privileged. You two are disgusting.

According to her list, as soon as that poor, black, disabled transvestite hit middle age, they become privileged.

I think the debate over "privilege" is something I try to ignore.
Those that want to push the idea are free to do so. It's free speech.
That doesn't mean I have to listen to the concepts, debate, frustrations etc.
I know many of you here are Christian. If we acted like Jesus taught, we would be more helpful to those that need help.
To whom much is given, much will be required (Luke 12:48).
--- I am not a practicing Christian, but I do acknowledge the good lessons that have been passed down.

You two are disgusting. You don't understand the concept. We get it. Nah man, I understand it perfectly. Ya'll create societal victims to support your beliefs. Zero accountability, everything that's happened to you isn't your fault, until you're successful...then you're privileged. You have something to blame for every individual success....let that sick in. You hate successful people, you loath them... completely forgetting that those same people worked harder and longer that you've ever considered (excluding trust fund babies). Hard work and individual effort still pays off, whether you choose to believe that or not.

That’s a wild way to interpret that. Maybe don’t place a label on “privilege” when all races and ethnicities have representatives. Why? If you're on the positive side of any of them you're experiencing some amount of privilege. Lots of people that fit in her list are not privileged. So why even attempt to place the label with a generalization that singles anyone out? If she meant what you’re insinuating, why not just say that instead of putting together an agenda driven list? Your assumptions are excuses for a really stupid thing to say.

I understand your *cough* 'concept', I refuse to accept it. They sound smart. That was a figure of speech...as you should know. But, you brought it up...they are smart. Like me, they're smart enough to know that their lives now are a direct product of their individual efforts....they literally had nothing. And people like you want to take that all away from them and suggest that their current lifestyle is because they somewhere had 'privilege'. Rather, they should be used as an example of what individual and collective efforts can bring you if YOU choose.
